Not only is the 200 formula scale players well and easy to figure out. If you increase your defence level for instance, you're likely to know the combat level you will be. You should also be able to look at another player's combat level to get an idea of their stats.

When you consider all of this, it's difficult to say that the 138 combat calculation does better than the 200 calculations. This is particularly relevant for the current EOC system.

A Possible Saving Grace. Important note at the close of this editorial Jagex will host another poll that allows players to cast their votes on the 138 calculation. This could help to solve the problem mentioned above. The system would have to change drastically. The calculation would be affected by hitpoints as well as Attack and Strength would need to be adjusted to magic and ranged.
