The issue led me switch from a 144hz main display and a 60hz second display to one screen at 144hz. I decided to do this because I did not want to WOW TBC Classic Gold go though changing my system at this time as my old 60hz monitor was long overdue for an upgrade anyway.
However, I did so through upgrading to a larger main screen. This means that my GPU was now driving more pixels , at a greater frequency of. So my GPU, which had seemed fine before for an application as simple as Classic WoW it was now required to be working. It was not sufficient for the task.
Even with all addons deactivated I was able to see that sometimes the game would blink even with VSync off or on. It didn't matter whether my GPU was reaching its limit. Zones like Nagrand, with all of its lush vegetation, would make me push and keep my GPU at 100% which would eventually lead to slowing down.
It seems WoW doesn't like my GPU throttle. Even though my CPU was not sweating, I could see the flickering of my GPU when it was running at its maximum. The addition of addons increased the frequency of flickering.
This is why I had to limit my game FPS limit to 60 and everything got significantly better. It's a bit frustrating because after a few minutes of playing with a higher refresh rate it's obvious that you've return to 60 FPS however it's much better than the flickering that I was experiencing.
After changing my settings, however, I was still seeing some flickering. I had assumed that it was my GPU was the culprit, however, a portion of me was thinking that it wasn't. In other games in which my GPU was also being stretched over its limits, I'd be fine. It is time to upgrade my GPU, and I will need another one. (I was planning to upgrade my GPU but ...) however, I think the GPU is fine. There are no problems with the hardware.
My issue is not caused by Windows 10's old DWM, Desktop Window Manager or refresh rate code. It's then required to adjust the WoW rate on buy wow TBC gold my main monitor to match the rate of my GPU, which typically is not 144 FPS. Since my second monitor was still just fine running at 144hz, the DWM could cause flashing when it would drop the frames on my main monitor.
