Training is a Must
In any game, training and practice is a must. And Rocket League is no exception. Apart from the core driving mechanics - the game features other elements that include jumping, scoring, wall climbing- are quite difficult to master. Since these elements are essential for winning, it is highly recommended you give the in-game practice and training session a run before you get into the actual multiplayer part of the game. This is one Rocket League tip, every player should follow.
Learn Shots
Back in the day when Rocket League was initially released, the game offered a limited number of gameplay options for the players. However, now that the game has become one of the most popular games of the current generation, the developers have added in support for players to train and practice. Plus, with the in-game training's vast range of options, you can practice everything from the aerial ability to taking shots. Hence, if you wish to become an absolute beast in the game, we advise you practice and master all of the in-game training options. Rocket League tips like these are essential to get better.
CAMERA SETTINGS
Camera settings in Rocket League are extremely important and very personal. The more aware you are of your position relative to the ball, walls, floor, opponents, or even the ceiling, dictates how capable you can become as a player. Play around with the settings on offer to find something that works for you.
If you have trouble hitting the exact point on the ball that you are looking for, reduce your camera distance so the ball is larger on your screen by the time you hit it. If your car moves around too much on the screen, reduce your stiffness. Want to see more when you flick your right stick? Increase your swivel speed. There are always plenty of wikis, fan sites, and other places to find your favourite player's settings, and experiment with what works best for you.
GET IN POSITION FAST
The half-flip is an awesome recovery move. In Rocket League, you want your boost to be pointing in the direction you're going all the time. It's not always possible, but the half-flip quickly allows you to face the right way if you end up backwards.
This move takes advantage of an interesting mechanic called flip cancelling. When you dodge forwards or backwards, you can hold your analogue stick in the opposite direction to cancel the flip. So, if you hold forward at the exact moment you hit 180° through a backflip, you're facing the opposite way and you can boost forward. The only problem is, your wheels are now pointing up, so you need to use air roll right/left to rotate the right way up as soon as you cancel - saving yourself from an awkward controller fumble.
Defense is Key
If you have ever seen or played sports, you would have probably heard the term "Attack is the best defense." Well, this is absolutely true when it comes to a game like Rocket League. If you plan on winning game after game, it is essential that you practice playing as a defender or more importantly, as a goalie.
This is because, at the end of the day, everyone can score goals. But saving them is the skill you need to master. You can head on over to the training and practice saving different shots. Talking about saving goals, another pro tip for you is to always go for clearing the ball rather than boost. All in all, being defensive is key to winning games. This is the best Rocket League tip we can give you.
No Need for Awesome Goals
We all have this innate desire to score amazing goals; however, when it comes to Rocket League, we would advise you not to take the risk. Though, scoring such goals come with bragging rights, winning is more important. Hence, we would advise you to make the most of any chances you get. Score goals first, and if and when you are winning, then go for breathtaking goals.
Custom Training
Reading tips and advice is fine and dandy, but putting them into practice is another matter entirely. Putting these tips into practice against other players can also be difficult, since you will most likely be focused on the match and will only be able to apply these techniques situationally. Fortunately for you, the Rocket League community is aware of the game's steep learning curve, and has made custom training packs to create highly specific drills for you to hone your skills.
While we wont highlight any specific Rocket League drills, you wont have much trouble finding courses for almost anything you want to learn and practice. The drills are available as codes that you search for, so you can start your training at a moment's notice. However, there are a few things you will want to keep in mind.
First, we highly suggest you run drills that have a complementary video showcasing how the actions are performed. There is no shortage of these on YouTube by highly skilled players, so this shouldn't be a problem. Second, you want to find drills that are appropriate for your skill level. A highly skilled player's drills may be much too complex or challenging for you to attempt if you're only just starting.
