The Corsa Collection are fully forged wheels made of 6061-T6 aerospace aluminum. These, like all Variant wheels, are subjected to stringent quality control methods to ensure that only the best product make it onto your car. Semi-custom with complete control over diameter, width, offset, and finish options, right down to hardware color. The Corsa Collection is a great way to get started with multi-piece wheels, but it's also ready to wow those who know what they're doing. To get more news about Alloy Forged Wheels, you can visit nnxwheels.com official website.
Who is Variant?
Variant Alloy Wheels aspires to give the highest quality, service, and elegant designs at competitive price points, with over 15 years of aftermarket and custom wheel experience. Their passion for designing the highest quality wheels with an emphasis on accurate fitments has been fuelled by their extensive expertise and experience gained over the years.
How are Variant wheels made?
They specialize in the production of both forged and flow formed wheels using cutting-edge cold vertical technology, as well as staggered fitments with a wide choice of wheel widths for the perfect fitment. During the design process, they verify that all of their wheels are TPMS (tire pressure monitoring sensor) compatible and have enough clearance for most high performance brake upgrades on a wide range of high-end, luxury, and exotic automobiles.
Forged wheels typically use aerospace-grade 6061 - T6 forged Aluminum alloys as raw material which has the best mechanical property for engineers to work with. To manufacture this raw material, a large piece of aluminum cylinder is heated up under controlled high temperature, then put into a hydraulic press and pressed into a much smaller block under 8,000 to 10,000 tons of pressure. The resulting part is commonly called a "forging". These forgings are shipped to manufacturers where wheel designs will be realized using CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machines. The forgings will go through a series of CNC operations to create the profile, width, offset, and spokes. Then skilled workers carefully hand apply all finishes to create the finished piece.
The forging manufacturing process eliminates any porosity, shrinkage, and other micro-processes presented in the raw material. The resulting aluminum material has a high degree of uniformity in the grain structure which allows the material to have a very high weight-to-strength ratio. As a result, forged wheels can be much more durable with much less material thus far lighter than cast wheels.
Since most forged wheels are individually made, there's a wide array of customization options such as diameter, width, offset, PCD (Pitch Circle Diameter/Bolt Pattern), brake clearance, and the finish. You can virtually customize every specification of the wheels to make them fit your car and your likings perfectly. The costs of material, labour, tooling, development, and manufacturing processes make forged wheels very exclusive and come at a very high price point. However, if you only want the best in aftermarket wheels, forged wheels are for you.
When looking for aftermarket wheels, there are only 2 types of wheels you will consider: cast or forged. The difference between these 2 types of wheels is in the manufacturing process. To get more news about Alloy Forged Wheels, you can visit nnxwheels.com official website.
Forged rims are made from solid aluminium that are heated to allow pressurized machines to shape the rims. Forged rims gets its name from the process of forging a single piece of aluminium into the shape of the wheel rims. Cast wheels on the other hand are made from aluminium that is melted into the liquid form, and poured into molds.
Don't get me wrong with the title of this article. There are significant advantages to forged wheels such as forged wheels being 3x stronger and 25% lighter which is everything you want in a dedicated race car. The down side is that it costs 3x as much than a cast wheel.
Light weight doesn't always have to be associated with forged wheels. You can also get cast wheels that are lighter and significantly cheaper. A key example of an amazing racing cast wheel is the Enkei RPF1. Weighing in at 17.9 lbs with a 18×9.5 wheel, it's on par with weight in most of the popular volk forged wheels.
The bottom line is that if you're in the market for just after market wheels you can daily drive and handle a few autoX and track events, you probably don't need to spend the extra 2 grand on forged wheels. Yes, they look cool and will be a talking point amongst your car mates, but it'll hurt that much more when you get a curb rash down the line.
As highlighted above even though the rotary forged wheels are lighter and in many cases stronger than a traditional cast wheel the main structural section of the wheel is the spoke face and hub mounting pad. This section in all rotary forged wheels is still a loose cast by design. Think about this carefully, even though the wheel is 1 piece construction it is manufactured using 2 different processes to give the finished results. In a conventional Monoblock Forged wheel the blanks of billet are forged under thousands of pounds of pressure to change the molecular structure of the aluminum alloy making it stronger and less prone to fatigue stress. This is not the case with a rotary forged wheel and anyone misleading this to a consumer is not being an honorable salesman. When it comes to the mass market a rotary forged wheel will satisfy a majority of the custom car crowd without a hitch. For owners of high performance vehicles we all want that quality but never thought it was possible to get it at an affordable price point.
Wheel companies are abundant these days and only a select number actually manufacture their own. What does this mean? Well most wheel brands out there blasting themselves on social media are just that, marketing companies. They spend the time to create cutting edge content and persuasive marketing tactics that really lures them into their brand and lifestyle. I have to say some of these companies are very clever and do an outstanding job marketing.
